{Kay, So I have been roleplaying Next-generation Fruits Basket for a while now, and I figured that asking our Adminstrator ~Pokes Tohru-san lightly~ if starting one on here would be allowed. She, being the awesome admin she is, said yes! ~Huggles~ Sooo.... You still have to play the same zodiac animal, just the next-generation. Kay.... So here goes nothing.}
“Pathetic”
A simple word escaped pale lips, as the head of the family overlooked the estates through a high window. Slender fingers gripped the windowsill, holding tightly as the head lightly leaned out into the laughter-filled air. She, or for the publics sake, he leaned back in, trickles of disgust contorting her soft features. She was sick of this, the laughing constantly awakening her from slumber; the giggling of happy maids outside of her door, gossiping instead of fetching what was needed. She was tired of constantly being treated like a child, endlessly tended to by ‘nurturing’ family members. Rei Sohma needed to escape, to get out of this prison they confined her to, to smell fresh air, not the dry fumes of her room, to which she was now confined. Yes, since that last incident, the one regarding her 'caregiver', she was locked in here, only to be seen by Jyunishi and maids. But she was going to escape, to run from this place, even if only to her gardens to relax.
Slowly Rei slid down the wall, brought her knees to her boyish chest, and rested her head on her knees. Slowly she wrapped her slender arms around her knees as well, pale fingers entwining with each other. Through this her long black jeans had ruffled, scooting up to her scarred ankles. A long sleeved black shirt draped itself on her torso, quite a few sizes too large for the thin head. Black hair splayed across her knees and neck, short, silky uneven locks that resembled her predecessor’s to a tee.
She sat like that for at least an hour, no sound from her aside from the labored breathing her sickness brought on. She just sat there, thinking, plotting, reflecting, whatever you may call it, but that was what had happened. But now she moved, lightly jerking her head up, emotionless grey eyes staring off coming slowly into focus as the twig-like head stood. She slammed her hands into her pockets, slipped her feet into sandals, and clicked the lack on her door open with the pin she used for holding fabric together. The hand that she had temporarily drawn out of a pocket to unlock the door now opened it, quickly shoving itself back into the aforementioned fold of cloth. She glanced around, seeing no one to disturb her, and shuffled through the hallway, stopping at the door to the gardens. The sixteen-year-old then reached her hand out again to open this door, and shuffled out of it. She was amazed, that through her tedious escape she had not once ran into anyone, but was not thankful or moved by it in any way, why should she be? There should have been someone there, coming in to check up on her, see how she was doing, but no, no one. She padded her way to one of the benches, forcing herself down on it’s hard surface, lying down, one knee bent, one stretched, one hand shielding her face, one smashed into a pocket. Soon her eyes closed, and she began to breathe the air in, shutting out the annoying laughter, the cries of maids finally discovering her disappearance.
{I am acutally quite pleased with this introduction, even though I only typed it up/ starting fixing it up on friday.}

[ I'm so excited you started this! I think I'm going to make Tohru's daughter...but in order to do all of this, we have to plan what happened to each of the Sohma's (who they married and had kids with...or if they even had kids at all, since the offspring of a Zodiac aren't necessarily cursed...but that WOULD be interesting if they all were kids of the Zodiac! Which is uhh..the point of this, right? *cough*) as well as Tohru, to have an accurate history. After that's done I have to find a way to get Tohru's daughter to meet the Sohma's (and obviously the Sohma's are already together) and figure out WHO the heck Tohru married. Hahah. K yeah...not that you all care. Woah...lots of rambling. Okay I'm done. ]

OoC//: Ugh, good point. We'd have to make pairings and the like, but the pairings that are both Jyunishi, would have problems. Considering how those would have to be directly related to each other... (Ex. Hiro/Kisa. Would they have two kids? Ram/Tiger?)

OoC; Hm, dunno. Spirits, from what I can tell, don't go to personalities, so much as who is born at the time. I think this would have to be a couple generations ahead of the Sohmas we all know and love, seeing as how the spirits only move on once the person has died....
Oh, yeah, and Tohru ends up with Kyo. That's my opinion, anyway, sorry, Yuki.

OoC//: Yes, I suppose it would have to be... So technically we don't really have to worry about Pairings. ~Bigsigh!~

[ Well today in school I came up with a profile for Tohru's daughter...and it didn't actually involve Kyo.
I don't know if I should go into detail...oh whatever.
First, Tohru lived with the Sohmas until she was eighteen and then pursued her dream as a chef. She was so grateful to the Sohmas and didn't want to burden them any longer, so she didn't visit too often, but always made sure to send holiday cards. She felt she was so indebted to them, yet she couldn't bring herself to return, which haunted on her conscience for most of her life. Anyways, eventually, she became a chef, and there met a man whom she fell in love with.
They got married and had one daughter before the man picked up and left. Tohru was heart broken. (I decided the reason he left was because he wasn't happy with the relationship and Tohru was a cold fish in bed...not very passionate at all). She tried to provide the best she could for her daughter, but still everyday she missed her husband. Eventually a letter came, about three years later, saying her husband had died from unknown causes and to arrange the funeral. She was devestated.
Her daughter grew up hearing tales of the Zodiac members, and stories of a certain cursed Zodiac family, though Tohru kept true to her word and never revealed who they actually were. Her daughter assumed it was a made up tale, but held hope in her heart that even an ounce of it was real.
Once her daughter was 16, Tohru became ill and passed away in her sleep. That would be present time. Her daughter has no where to go. The house is left in her name, but she is too young to seize it. Social workers are currently searching for legitimate relatives though Tohru's daughter claims there are none. If she can't find a place to live in two weeks, she's being sent to foster care.
That's where the Sohmas come in. It's almost just like Fruits Basket...a parallel almost.
Of course, we can change some of this around, but I think it would work. I think I'm going to have Tohru's daughter, in a moment of desperation, come to the main house and ask for work in return for room and board. Hopefullyyyyyy Akito's daughter would say yes, hahah.
If there are any other suggestions though, I'd love to hear them. ]

OoC//: Ah, that works for me, considering that could all have happened over a span of about 25 years.... If we stretch it. Then, our original Sohma's could have passed away, even if it comes down to short-lived suicides. Thus, next-gen.

The girl stood quietly next to the gates to the Sohma estate, her hand reaching up to gently stroke the curling green ivy that had snaked its way along the old, elegant iron, her limbs trembling, even with the warm spring breeze soft and sweet against her skin. As her legs threatened to give out, she gripped the cool iron, a soft cry escaping her lips. She looked down, refusing to let herself cry again. Her mother had always been strong, especially in front of her. And for that, she had to be the same.
When her mother had died, not a single tear had been shed. Shock had overtaken her. Her mother's body laying limp in her own bed...she hadn't cried. The ambulance taking her body away...she hadn't cried. Picking out her mother's favorite flowers for the funeral...she hadn't cried. But the day she had gone to see her at the wake...she had broken down like never before. Seeing her mother's beautiful, cold body lying there wasn't right. She was like the spring. Always alive, always blooming. Though she had lost some of her life since her father had gone away, it had never killed her entire spirit.
Falling down upon her body, she sobbed so terribly she had to be pulled away. She sobbed for her mother, who hadn't deserved to die, and she sobbed even more so, because she had been one of the only people who had even arrived at the funeral, except for a few of her coworkers.
After that, she couldn't stop crying. She would be in school and read a math problem...something she had never related to her mother...and cry. She could be taking a shower, doing the laundry, cooking...even sleeping she had woken up with tears on her pillow.
But that was before. She knew she had to pull herself together or else she would be sent to foster care, which meant transferring schools and getting a poor education, and her mother had pressed her to receive the opposite.
"Mom," she said, her voice trembling. "I love you..."
She pushed onto the gate and it opened easily, much to her surprise. She had half been hoping that it wouldn't open...so that she could spare herself the shame of begging for a job, putting herself on as a burden to all who resided there. But she felt there was no other choice, there was no other place to go that could possibly offer room and board, and that was what she needed, above all.
Slowly regaining her strength, she walked down the fragrant paths, her mind stirring with memories triggered by the sweet scents of the grounds. A soft smile spread on her lips, watching a blue bird stealing a large red berry from the branches of a large bush. She kept on her pace, unsure where to turn, her fear and anxiety growing like a seed deep in her chest, slowly sprouting and spreading outwards.
"Hello?" she called out timidly, her face flushing, as she arrived upon the largest house that was directly in front of the path. She blinked, keeping out the sting of impending tears in her blue eyes. Tensing her shoulders, she looked down, deep brown hair falling over her eyes.
She looks just like her mother... Just like her mother... Such a shame...
She swallowed, frustrated at how easily she could become overwhelmed by her own emotions. Shaking her head, she took a deep breath and stepped forward.

((Okay, so a question. I won't be able to join until I'm done applying for my major, but I still wanna know for later; so that I can join when I'm done. I get to make up the 2nd generation person, their background, and their relations to others? You mentioned doing this before, Aki, if you wanna tell me what it has been like please PM me. As it is I assume the answer is yes to my questions. I shall think. Have fun role-playing for now!))

Why...Why had everything gone wrong?
She hadn't been born when the Sohma's had seemed to reach their downfall. Well, roughly. The girl was a mere infant by the time a sadistic plague swept the emotions of nearly every Sohma.
All of the Zodiac seemed to dissappear. Wether it be caused by the hands of another, a hate of their own lives, or fate, the somehow all-loved individuals were gone. Her generation was a new hope, but the last was an empire that had reached an interesting peak then taken a dive for the worst. The forever-loved, highly optimistic Miss Tohru Honda -she never really got to know what happened with the 'Honda' part- had married, dissappeared from the lives of the Sohma's, then dissappeared from the face of the planet. She was sure that's what started the single-generation's interminable sadness, but there was no telling. The animal spirits inside of the Sohmas had all drifted to this one age group because those with spirits had died...Which the new boar was sure to be all of her close realitives. 'Close.' As of yet, those she had met had come on jaded. Just a little. They had lost their loved ones, a lot of them, but had that stopped the Sohma-famous Tohru Honda? No...But not everyone held that kind of spirit.
Not even Kasumi.
Yes, she could bottle up her sadness and store it in a little dark corner where no one could find it. She could mask the hiding spot with cheeriness, and address other's concerns to direct attention away from her. She could dream. But she could never erase her mother.
No one else could either, when they saw a form of Kagura in her. Yes, Kasumi's set of jagged shoulder-length, bister locks were a little thicker, with a slightly more brunette touch to them possibly, and she stood a little shorter, but the gleam that was held in the late Sohma's eyes shone within Kasumi.
She had used an inheritance to attend a private school elsewhere, but when a certain occurance drove everyone to realize the inconspicious Kasumi's parents had passed on, there was no where else to go. She started the local school in a week, but all she could do now was hope that the new home would accept her.
The sun's rays taunted her mood. Be strong for mummy, dear Kasumi, the wind hissed into her ear, not without the heaviest tone of mockingness. Be strong for Kagura, her mind corrected, in a form-edged coo.
Be strong.
And that's exactly what she intended to do, approaching the road to the main house with her jaw now elevated slightly and a shield smile donned. That's what she always did. No one dared to tease the uncharted strength of Kasumi when provoked. It would be like sticking your tongue out at Haru when his white side left no trace of exsistance. You just didn't do it.
"Wait..Who's that?" Miss Sanyuu mumbled, peering a minute's walk ahead of her to the figure already at the Sohma gates.
