He shook his pale head 'no', using his non- I.V.'ed hand to remove the cup from hers. He brought it to his lips and emptied it. After setting the glass down he asked her a simple question, "Is that acceptable?" He was speaking of his previous offer, and the water had helped him regain a bit of his voice back.

Tohru knelt again, nodding. "O-Of course it's acceptable. But, I don't believe that you will die. I have faith that you'll hold together," she said, smiling softly to him.

He smiled...again, how odd... "You are the only one who does" He whispered at her, coughing again afterwards.

"Then does that mean you don't believe you will live?" she asked. "Hatori-san thinks you will live, I think you will too! I think you should believe you'll live...for anything you might have ever cared for."

"Hatori doesn't belive I'll make it through today..." He said, His voice dulling a bit, an eyebrow raised. "And if my own doctor has no faith, then who is to say I should?"

"But he never said that," Tohru insisted. "Maybe he thinks that if his patient doesn't have faith, then he shouldn't either. So there...it all comes down to having to believe in yourself before anyone will believe in you."

He was stubborn, pigheaded, and wasn't about to agree with the girl. "I'm still alive you know, erasing your memories isn't too farfetched of an idea."

Tohru bowed her head again. "I'm sorry, Akito-san. I understand if you need to erase my memories."
[ bye! ]

"Do you have a mind of your own Tohru-chan, or do you enjoy getting walked on?" The fragile form asked her, eyebrow raised, acid evident in his hoarse voice.

Tohru bowed her head lower, unsure how to answer. She hesitated. "If you want to erase my memories then there's nothing I can do," she replied. "If it's inevitable then I want...to make it as easy on everyone as possible. I'll be sad to forget...but I think there are some things that can never be erased."

"Akito, you aren't allowed to die yet." Yuki walked in holding a simple wooden tray, and on it were five grey ceramic cups. Yuki didn't like being in the same room with a dying person, he'd found, and so when they'd returned to the house the first thing he did was find an excuse to be busy. He'd helped Akito onto the nearest flat, soft surface (the crappy futon on which he rested now) and promptly disappeared into the kitchen. He had heard Tohru walk past earlier, but felt no desire to speak with her concerning these events. Instead, he made Akito's favorite ochya, green tea, and prepared enough for the three awake people and two ill. He'd planned on coming in sooner, but Akito was talking to Tohru, he knew he should probably wait. He'd heard Tohru's half of the conversation, and was eager to find out what was so "acceptable," but wisely decided now would not be the right time. Instead, he turned up the corners of his lips in a smile that never reached his saddened eyes.
"You always told us you were going to die in the late winter, just before spring. 'That way,' you told us, 'I won't have to watch this pathetic planet start over again in it's futile effort to stay alive.' Remember? That means you have to hold on for another month, at least," explained Yuki calmly. He gently set down a cup next to Tohru, and two on Hatori's working shelf; one for Akito and one for the doctor himself. Yuki took a cup for himself and set down the tray (with the final cup) next to Haru. "You can't go back on your own word. Can you believe in that much, at least?"

Tohru took the hot cup of tea gratefully in her hands. "Yuki-kun is always so thoughtful," she murmured, blowing on it carefully before she took a sip. She pretended to be listening attentively to what Yuki was saying, but truthfully she was more focused on her half relief for the interruption. After her last comment, she was afraid of what Akito's reaction would have been.

Yuki wasn't sure what to do. He smiled to Tohru for her small comment, and then turned back to Akito. A silence seemed to drift through the room. After a while, Yuki closed his eyes and started to talk. He spoke quietly, never raising or lowering his voice. The speech wasn't directed at anyone in particular, rather the sound of talking seemed to waft along the room, softly pressing into the corners where silence had reigned. The sound seemed to soothe Yuki more than anything, however.
"I'm on the student council. President, actually. It's tough being looked up to like that. What's even trickier is all the paper work. Just earlier today I was reading a report about the school trip. What is there to report? It's a trip! We leave the school for a while, look around and take pictures, then come back and pretend that it was a wonderful and life changing experience. With all that paperwork you'd think we were planning a secret invasion into the heart of Honk Kong. But studying is simple enough, that's always been easy. Finals, too. Shigure is pleasant enough, and my garden is doing well. Did you know I kept a garden? No, probably not. It never came up. There are many things that never came up, things I didn't want to think or talk about. But it's alright, life is alright, and I'm content. Just the other day..."
Yuki continued murmuring, like a mantra, until someone either inturrupted or he managed to tell his life story from age 12 on. His tea remained in his lap, steadied by numb hands, waiting to get cold.

Tohru looked at Yuki in alarm. It wasn't unnatural for him to talk, by any means, but the way he was talking now seemed strange to her.
"Are you okay, Yuki-kun?" she asked tentatively.

Yuki stopped. He sat in silence for a while, then took a sip of tea. "I don't think you should be worrying about me right now..." he said finally. He looked back at Akito for a while. He was acting strangely, wasn't he? He'd never really needed to deal with death before. Was this how he reacted. It seemed unreal to him. Yuki turned to Tohru and smiled, then went back to watching over Akito. He lowered his head again and took another sip of the warm drink. Then he whispered softly, "It's not your fault."
